The next wave
R+D ApproaCH
Our practice is rooted in social science: we start with powerful, scoped questions and use feasible, interactive methods to galvanize collective knowledge. Our research focuses on elevating market insights regarding resource governance, ocean health outcomes, and community livelihoods in emerging blue economies, and our development practice works to design and deliver products and practices that come from the research.
CURRENT RESEARCH
COLLECTIVE RESOURCE STEWARDSHIP
We’re learning about cooperative best practices and legal structures to identify mechanisms and usable, culturally-rooted playbooks that enable collective benefit and protection of the marine commons in blue economy sectors, especially fishing and coral reef-based recreation.
Reach out to advance our research and knowledge base, especially if you can recommend case studies and models from beyond Indonesia!
OCEAN ADVENTURE
BUSINESS MODELS
As consumers, we know firsthand how much effort it takes to find ocean adventures that cut locals and nature in on the profit; proactively realize gender equity; and provide financial and mobility accessibility. We have found a tremendous lack of data around the economics of growing scuba diving and surfing offerings, so we’re sense-making the current state of businesses models in the Indonesian market. Sign up for the Next Wave Forecast newsletter to receive the emerging analysis.
web3 +
nature-based solutions
Blockchain technology is laying down the data infrastructure to revolutionize digital ownership, governance, knowledge preservation and profit-sharing—we are keen to catch this wave on the horizon!
Are you building at the intersection of web3 and nature-based solutions? We’re excited to collaborate with technologists on real-world use case pilots to bring the social side of insights to the laboratory.
